We are Rieneke & Gert van de Pol. Since January 2017 we live in the Northern part of Malawi: in Ekwendeni, approximately 20 kilometers from Mzuzu.
For many years Rieneke worked in the Netherlands as a nurse. In Malawi she works for the palliative care programme of Ekwendeni Mission Hospital. That means that she provides care to people suffering from diseases that cannot be healed. So palliative care doesn't aim at healing people, but at reducing pain, suffering and discomfort caused by incurable diseases. Rieneke works together with her colleague Maggie and others to support palliative care patients.
As a reverend Gert served four different congregations in the Netherlands. In Malawi he works for the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia as a Bible study coordinator. Several years ago the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia decided in its strategic plan to give priority to Bible study, to strengthen the spiritual life of Christians, the congregations and the Church. The programme aims at putting Bible study at the heart of the church and its life and work.
Two congregations in the Netherlands took responsibility to send us as missionary workers to Malawi: the Johanneskerk in South Rotterdam and the Protestant congregation of Rijnsburg. Thankfully, also other congregations support our mission, as do family and friends. So, many congregations and people are involved. They support us and our mission through prayers, fund raising and paying attention.
We are happy to be part of the Dutch missionary organisation GZB, that in Malawi cooperates with churches like the CCAP Synod of Livingstonia.
